My fiancée and I are both avid travelers. We in fact met each other during an intercollegiate camping trip.
That is when we both saw that we share the same interests and got hooked to each other.
Four months before we got married, we hit upon the idea of building our own camper, which we could use for our proposed outings in the future.
The project worked out so good, we ended up having our honeymoon in the slide-on camper we both built just before the wedding.
I am an Autocad specialist and always had a flair for blueprints. She is great with digital visualization tools like Maya and 3DS Max. So I did the designing and drafting while she brought the designs to life in 3D on the computer.
In order to help me with the blueprints, I went in search of some good books. I picked up two books in particular for the project. One was called “How to Build Low Cost Motorhomes 2004 Edition” by Louis C McClure. The second book was called “How to Convert/Restore Old Cars, Station Wagons, Vans, Trucks and Buses into Rv's”.
The first book had an incredible amount of schematics and diagrams for various kinds of project ideas. It was a treasure house of information for the kind of designs that were possible. I immediately chose two or three designs and started tweaking them to fit my specification and requirements. Once I finished my designs I showed them to my fiancée but she had trouble visualizing them in her mind.
That is when the second book came in handy. It contained numerous photographs of different types of campers and RVs made by different people. Using the photos as a guide, I was able to help her visualize my design. And within no time, she came up with the final rendered version of my design. From this output, we were able to build our Slide on Camper, which eventually became our honeymoon suite.
