Camper Roof Repair

DIY Camper roof repair

The roof of a camper would need maintenance and repair as with any other part of the vehicle.

Since the roof is exposed to the elements the most, it could be one of the surfaces that needs attention every now and then.

If you live in an area where the climate is windy or cold, or a place with a lot of rain, the roof of your camper could take a lot of beating from the weather.

But maintaining or repairing the roof is not a very difficult task, as there are a number of DIY aides to help even the novice. You can do Camper roof repair at home with just a few equipments.

One of the products that you would need is EPDM, which is a rubbery substance used for sealing the roof. You can either brush the material onto the roof or just roll it over the roof of the vehicle. These materials are light in weight and very durable, and are specially made for campers. The coating on the roof helps reflect the UV rays from the sun, preventing the roof from drying and cracking. This would eventually prevent any kind of leakage when it rains.

Before commencing the repair on the roof, the old caulk on the roof would need to be scraped off. This caulk would have dried and cracked, and needs to be removed from the surface of the vehicle. The EPDM should then be applied with a clean palette to seal all cracks in the ceiling. When the coating dries, the surface should be brushed in order to remove dirt and debris. If there are any screws that are not flush with the roof, they would have to be replaced to maintain a smooth roof surface.

Maintaining the roof in good condition through periodic Camper roof repair would increase the life of the trailer considerably.
