We decided as a family that we wanted a trip to Hawaii and decided that since we love camping it was the only way we were going to stay in Hawaii and enjoy the sights.
We found the MacKenzie State Recreation Area had some very nice campsites and so many things to do around the park and the surrounding area. The fishing was fascinating.
The boys enjoyed spending the day with there dad fishing, while I took the girls on a scenic tour of the hike around the park. We all had a great time. It was so peaceful and enjoyable.
At night, we enjoyed a fire and some conversation with the neighbors on both sides of us. We were very pleased with the way the Big Island takes care of the area to keep it beautiful and interesting for campers like ourselves. We were fascinated by the night sounds. We heard sounds of wildlife all around us.
It was more like being out in the wilderness then it was being in a campgrounds. We had the most enjoyable times. We enjoyed it so much that we plan to go back next year and stay a little longer.
The Hawaiian culture and attractions were amazing. We attended a few shows while we were there and saw how the Hawaiians celebrate every day of life on the island. We were very welcome there and felt like we belonged.
The camping was exceptional and I especially liked learning some interesting cooking tips for the campfire from some of the locals selling groceries and things that we needed. We always tried to have a different Hawaiian meal every night.
The food was delicious after the women told me how to make everything on a hot fire. It as the best family camping trip we have ever had.
