If you get a chance to see a home built truck camper, you need to check it out.
I saw a 1997 truck camper in Hawaii, a few years ago and the person had done everything himself.
He had the microwave, double bed, sitting area and kitchen.
It was most amazing to hear he had done all this by himself.
His wife did the decorating with curtains and wall décor as well as picking the materials for the sitting area.
The family wanted a camper that suited their needs and they could not find one they liked, therefore he built one from a camper shell.
He said he had looked at a 1998 that was in awful shape on the outside and a popup trailer, but both of them need so much exterior work he went with the 1997. It took him almost two years working at his own pace to complete the project and now has a great little camper.
The last I heard he was heading down to Idaho for a custom truck show where he wanted to show his truck camper off and see if he could get any takers on a custom truck camper. He wanted to do another project and was looking for an older camper and maybe someone that would hire him to do the work.
The home built truck camper he felt would give him something to do to make extra money for summer travels. I wish I were that handy, I have many friends that do this all the time, and I am more of hit the road and travel type. I do not stay home long enough to start or even finish such a project. Well I hope he has fun and sends some pictures my way as he said he would do. I would like to see his progress.
