Camper Rentals in South Dakota

South Dakota is located in the Midwest region of the United States and is a perfect place for family vacation. It provides many outdoor activities not only for families but also for individuals, and for those who are adrenaline junkies, nature lovers and those who just want peaceful and relaxing vacation.

The state is best known for Mount Rushmore, the historical monument, which contains four giant sculptures of American Presidents (George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln).

Each of these sculptures is approximately 60 feet high.

The carving of the sculptures began in 1927 and was finished in 1991.

Just 17 miles from Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills, there is another mountain monument representing “other side of the story” - the Crazy Horse Memorial. It represents a granite portrait of the famous Sioux leader on the horseback.

The monument has been under construction since 1948 and unfortunately hasn’t been finished yet. Once finished it will be the largest sculpture in the world!

Other interesting attractions in the state include national and state parks. Badlands National Park is located in southwestern part of South Dakota, covering 244,000 acres of uniquely formed hills and pinnacles made from the erosion of clay and sand. The park is home to many species of wildlife including bighorn sheep, bison, swift fox and the endangered black-footed ferret. Thanks to the strangely beautiful scenery, the park is the most visited destination in the state.

Another attractive park is Custer State Park covering a wide range of different terrain where visitors can enjoy many outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Large herds of bison can be seen here.

Intro to South Dakota attractions

Wind Cave National park, located north of Hot Springs, is home to a huge cave system, which is thought to be the largest in the world. At the same time, this place is one of the oldest national parks in the country. While in Hot Springs, make sure to visit the Mammoth Site featuring a large collection of Columbian mammoth bones. Here, you can see partially uncovered bones shown as they were found.

South Dakota is also dotted with many beautiful and clean lakes where people can go fishing or just relax near the water. Richmond Lake, Lake Campbell, Run Lake, and Fulton Lake, are just some of many lakes in the state. Apart from beautiful nature and state parks, South Dakota is home to many interesting museums. Pettigrew Home and Museum in Sioux Falls is actually the Queen Ann-style home of South Dakota’s first senator Richard Pettigrew.

Sioux Falls features one more famous museum -the Old Courthouse displaying exhibits related to the history of the state and town. Another attractive museum in the state is the National Music Museum & Center for Study of the history of musical instruments at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Here visitors can see thousands of American, European and non- Western instruments from all over the world.

South Dakota thanks to its numerous attractions and must to see places is at the very top of the most visited states in the United States.  The perfect way to live this experience is to rent a camper and start your journey.
